Long before stepping down as Mx LoveYourself Universe 2023, Zoe Black was already a standout volunteer at Athena by LoveYourself. In 2023, her tireless advocacy and dedication helped uplift the community and break down barriers.

Her passion and leadership paved the way for her current role as Program Officer for TRANScend by LoveYourself, where she champions transgender health and works to expand access to affirming, community-led care.

Zoe’s journey—from dedicated volunteer to crowned queen to program leader—shows how resilience and purpose can create lasting impact and inspire others to rise.

Em Barrera has long been a force of pride and purpose in the LoveYourself community. Crowned Mx LoveYourself Universe 2024, they became a powerful voice for HIV awareness, transgender health, and LGBTQIA+ empowerment.

Their reign reached beyond the crown. As Program Associate for TRANScend, they championed affirming healthcare and HIV education. They also led trans-led research as Research Coordinator for SEATrans.

Now Program Officer at Athena, Em continues to lead with heart — mentoring volunteers and driving purpose-driven work, all while leaving a legacy of courage, compassion, and impact.

James Edward, Mx. LoveYourself International 2025, has been a powerhouse at AHF Wellness Center – Athena by LoveYourself for years. Named Volunteer of the Year 2023, he never hesitates to step up and serve the community with unwavering dedication.

He’s Athena’s rep at VOICE by LoveYourself, ensuring a safe, healthy space for volunteers. He’s also one of the Deans of the Volunteers Academy and now the Internal Program Lead at the Ministry of Fun.

A true leader, James shows that service means showing up, stepping up, and inspiring others to do the same.

Veronica Ortega has been a steady presence at Athena by LoveYourself, helping shape it into a safe and affirming space for the community.

In 2024, they made history as the first from Batch Adarna to represent at Mx LoveYourself—an empowering moment that reflected their authenticity and heart. They’ve since deepened their commitment to the advocacy with grace and strength.

Now serving as the Pocket Events Lead at LoveYourself’s Ministry of Fun, Veronica fosters connection and care among volunteers through meaningful and engaging initiatives. Recently, they also stepped into a Faculty role with the Volunteer Academy, guiding the next wave of advocates.

Raffy Intes, also known as Chantal Gem Love, has been a standout advocate since joining Athena in 2023. Named 2024 Breakthrough Volunteer and as Mx LoveYourself Diwata 2025, he’s brought warmth, confidence, and compassion to events like International Condoms Day and various outreach efforts.

Today, Raffy is a Faculty at LoveYourself's Volunteers' Academy, guiding the next wave of changemakers. He also co-leads Athena’s Organizing team, bringing energy and fun to volunteer activities.

Raffy reminds us that leadership begins with love. Through every event, outreach, and conversation, he uplifts others and inspires change within and beyond the Athena family.

Maxie Edwards made history as the first Athenian to compete at Miss Grand Welcome, carrying pride, confidence, and purpose onto the stage. Their journey was marked by authenticity and connection, earning the Miss Grand Welcome Flourish title alongside Miss Popular Vote and Miss Latina through undeniable presence and strong community support.

Beyond the pageant, Maxie continues to shape stories behind the lens as the lead photographer of the Creatives team. Balancing artistry and advocacy, their wins reflect not just personal achievement but a wider celebration of representation, talent, and shared vision.

Vinny Ortega shined at Miss Grand Welcome, earning the title of 2nd Princess through grace, confidence, and heart. She stood on stage with pride, openly expressing her journey as a transgender woman and showing that authenticity is a powerful form of courage.

Beyond the crown, Vinny continues to rise as a dedicated volunteer and community presence. Her passion and spirit were further recognized when she was named Rave Warrior of Energy and Empowerment at the Athena Awards 2025—a testament to her vibrant energy, advocacy, and commitment to uplifting others.

Chris Ortega didn’t just play in the Finals—he set the standard. From the opening tip to the final buzzer, he delivered with poise, focus, and an unshakable will to win, stepping up in the biggest moments and anchoring the team when it mattered most.

Whether it was timely scoring, smart decision-making, or locking in defensively, his impact was undeniable. Calm under pressure and consistent throughout the series, Chris Ortega earned the Finals MVP honor through leadership, grit, and performances that defined the championship.

Smashed their way through the finals, Team Black clinched the volleyball championship of the first-ever season of the LuxeCare Sports Cup, held at Dumlao Sports Center on January 19–20, 2026.

The recently concluded league is a manifestation of advocates living an active lifestyle beyond regular operations and activities, and proof that health and wellness don’t only happen within our facilities but also on the court.

VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONS

2025 Most Active Volunteer Chris Alexander Ortega, the team captain and open spiker, joined the season’s Mythical Six and rallied behind the team—earning him the Finals MVP award. Four other volunteers, namely Raffy Intes (opposite spiker), Ayen Dagle (middle blocker), Vain Pescador (libero), and Neo Miranda (middle blocker), also juggled their active commitments while contributing to the team’s triumph. Although Team Black was composed of 55% Athena volunteers, the success was also made possible through the shared efforts and teamwork of staff and volunteers from DIOSSA-Lily by LoveYourself, LoveYourself Capitol, and LoveYourself Anglo.

Athena was once again crowned champion at the annual inter-hub Got Talent competition during the LoveYourself Volunteers’ Year-End Party, marking a back-to-back victory. Embracing the theme Baranggayan, Athenians delivered a dynamic performance that blended Filipino cultural dances with modern elements and music.

From Luzon to Mindanao, the showcase featured festival-inspired routines and a powerful finale honoring Inang Kalikasan. This second consecutive win reflects the creativity, dedication, and strong sense of community that define every Athenian volunteer.

Athena claimed the very first championship title at the inaugural LoveYourself Got Talent competition during the Volunteers’ Year-End Party. Represented by Haus of Gem, the Versusan Year 2 Grand Winner, Athena delivered a compelling performance centered on a Jayde’s journey—told through movement, music, and emotion. The piece resonated deeply, marking a historic win and setting a powerful precedent for future competitions.
